My Books work in progress across genres. Two of them, revised, polished and ready! Those, I am querying. Updates and progress TBA.
I always wanted to be a teacher and was lucky to teach grades one, two, three, four, five and six. Each year, my students made me a better teacher. I will forever thank them, and thank Alejandro for rule number one, Make Friends.
I write books for kids. I present online and in class-rooms, teach Young Writers Camps, and have a bit of a secret life because I write poetry.
I live in Ventura County, California. I am one of seven sisters, two of them I’ve never met. That is another story. I was born in La Jolla. I have never lived far from the ocean or mountains. I like black licorice and I cry when I’m happy.
In college, I took classes to become a teacher. More than one of my professors told me to write stories for children and to not forget the ones I wrote. But I gave everything to teaching and the stories had to wait.
I have a lifetime multiple subject bilingual teaching credential, with an emphasis in cross-cultural studies. I am proud of my master's degree in bilingual special education which has the word bilingual right on it. And, it has the name of my chosen family, too. I chose a Grandma. With her name I was part of her family, and I was loved. I wanted to be like her which is the reason I have become who I am. I didn’t always love books, but I craved stories, listened to stories, laughed, cried, and invented stories. Now I write them. I write to give back to my students and to my community.
